Эссе “How to make science fun?”
Children always have one question – “Why?” One can make science fun and exciting by encouraging kids’ natural curiosity about the world and teaching them how to find answers for themselves.
Like scientists, children can sharpen their observation skills and learn to make and test hypotheses to uncover the answers.
People believe that science is boring and suitable only for nerds and lad rats. However, that could not be further from the truth. In fact, science can be fun for both children and adults. It is only perceived as boring due to how it is taught at school and communicated in the news or magazines.
Getting kids to engage with science is not always easy, though. While they almost universally love being stuck into experiments and practical, the theoretical side can be trickier to master. However, encouraging an early enthusiasm for the subject is vital. There is much evidence that children’s interest in science is shaped before they leave primary school.
Part of this responsibility is up to schools, but as a parent, there are many great ways to develop your child’s passion for science.
As for me, I can share several ideas I think the best:
1) Play with the food. Food is a brilliant tool for making this vital connection. You can get children to eat a spoonful of icing sugar and reveal that they have just eaten an explosive substance, paint their tongue with blue food coloring to show the kids their taste buds and so on. They will gain a new understanding that chemistry, biology and physics are at the heart of the food they put into the mouth.
2) Read about different facts. Books are a safe place to discover new things. Books are beautiful to look at and the pictures explain the science.
3) Explore the outdoors. The garden is a brilliant place for a child to learn about biology. Trees are different and one can use a guide or the internet to identify the type of trees, plant seeds, measure their rate of growth, comparing how they grow in different environments.
