CHARLES DICKENS "OLIVER TWIST". ANALYSIS
Introduction. “Oliver Twist” is certainly one of the greatest and most popular works of art of all time. The first part of "Oliver" is closer to the journalism of Dickens, but the confident, clear and restrained language of this journalism is brilliant. The story of Oliver is an account of the brutality with which the Victorian system oppresses the nameless, almost faceless lower classes of society; how crude and ruthless the system is, even when it is carried out within the law, and how inhumane it is in practice.
The modern reader will hardly notice the fact that Dickens is attacking in this book people who are serious, intelligent, educated, but who have failed to carry out their good intentions, because the social task they faced was extremely difficult. It may also escape our notice that, although Dickens was unjust to these people, he saw the truth much better than they did, and unlike the lawmakers, he was not blinded by statistics. However, it is impossible not to notice that before us is the sharpest social satire, the author of which is not occupied with individuals, but with the person in general, the "crowd", society as a whole.
In “Oliver Twist” Dickens first addressed the question of the interaction of the individual and society, the personality of the child and its surrounding social environment; he is one of the few writers who with amazing skill depict the fate of children in modern society, their characters, complex inner world and a variety of experiences.
Main body. “The Adventures of Oliver Twist” is the second novel by Charles Dickens and the first in English literature, the main character of which was a child.
In the novel, many critics have noted shortcomings – so do not shown a direct impact of the surrounding social environment on the evolution of the characters, on the formation of their characters, inadequately disclosed process, the relationship between man and environment. We can't follow their development. Due to the lack of internal contradictions, the characters make a choice without any doubts, focusing on their formed character.
